FINAL UPDATE (6-5-2020)
Dear Parents and Students,
We are almost at the end of a very unusual school year. Kudos to those of you that have taken your work seriously and have persevered through this bizarre time in all our lives. It will absolutely pay off for you. You make me proud to be your teacher!
It is still unclear on how school will look at the start of school in the Fall. Whatever it looks like, we will all step up and meet the challenge. It is my hope that school will be back to normal. At this point I am seriously doubting that. Hopefully, I’m wrong ...we’ll see.
All work for math classes until the end of the year has been posted on Khan Academy. When you finish the posted assignments you are finished with your 2019-2020 math class. Congratulations! Finish all your other classes and do your best to enjoy your Summer. Be ready to hit the ground running in the Fall.
Be sure to email me when any past due assignments are completed so I can give you credit. Also, keep emailing if you have questions. I will be checking my school emails regularly through June 11. After that it will be very sporadic.
I wish all the soon to be Freshman the best of luck in high school! For those returning seventh graders (to be 8th graders) I will see you in August!
Stay well and safe this Summer!

Yearbook Distribution Information
Dear Santa Margarita Families,
I wanted to give you an update on how we will be handling Yearbook distribution. Due to Covid-19, Lifetouch is facing delays in printing and shipping and is unable to make any time commitments at this time. Because of this, I still do not have a definite shipping date from them. I can only say that they will hopefully be here sometime this summer.
If you are moving, please send Martina Boeck and myself an email with:
- Student’s: Name, Grade, and Teacher
- Forwarding Address
- Working Phone Number
Thank you again for supporting Santa Margarita Elementary and the Middle School Yearbook Staff. Hope you have a safe and happy summer!

UPDATE #11 (5-29-2020)
Dear Parents and Students,
I hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day and took a moment to reflect on why we have this holiday.
We’re now getting down to the wire. Monday, we will be in June and need to still stay focused. Many of you are really doing an outstanding job making the best of this bizarre situation. You are completing assignments and doing your best. That is all I ever ask of you, do the best you can!
As we go into these final weeks of the year, be on the lookout for emails and call outs coming from Mr. Camacho. There will be information on how to drop off school owned property such as Chromebooks, textbooks and the like. If you can’t make the times given for particular grade levels, contact the school to make special arrangements. We will accommodate you!
I also have some of the pertinent information you will need to wrap up this school year on my website. Just click on the updates tab and scroll.
As I said last week… Please make sure you are checking your Aeries accounts to be sure I haven’t missed any completed assignments. Parents, this is your means to check up on your students work completion. I appreciate those of you that do check and follow up.
Don’t forget to email me when you finish any past due assignments. As long as you do them, you will get credit for them.
Stay well,
Mr. Eric Anderson

UPDATE #9 (5-15-2020)
Dear Parents and Students,
I hope everyone’s hanging in there, 9 weeks down and 3 ½ to go!
Again, major kudos to those students that have been taking care of business every week! You know who you are. ...and so do I. A sincere thank you from me!
Keeping students up to grade level in math is hard enough with us all being together in a classroom. The situation we find ourselves in magnifies the difficulties. It is those students watching the videos and doing the work that will come out on the other end of this shutdown in great shape to continue their learning at the next level. Yes, some of it is hard. Anything in life worthwhile will be hard. Go back and re-watch the videos, call a friend for help, email me with questions, do everything in your power to help yourself learn. It is YOUR education!
Don’t forget to email me when you finish any past due assignments. As long as you do them, you should get credit for them.
8th graders in my Enrichment class don’t forget to do 3 of the 5 Everfi courses (links below).

Math Update #8 (5-8-2020)
Dear Parents and Students,
As we continue going through all this craziness, I’m very proud of all the students that are persevering and doing the best they can with the online math lessons. Those of you taking care of business will reap the benefits down the road. Keep at it!
Please make sure to email me if any late assignments are completed. This is the only way I will know to check back and give you credit for the work. Also, I see several students are just “clicking” through the lessons and not taking the time to learn the concept. TAKE YOUR TIME! Redo missed problems. Several of you are not going back to fix missed questions, don’t be okay with a zero. Use the hints button for help. Email me if you need some guidance (thank you to those of you that have).
There is a unique virtual opportunity to meet two of the newest LA Chargers draft picks. ...if you’re into that sort of thing. I have detailed information regarding this on my website www.eandersonmath.weebly.com click on “Shutdown Updates.” Meeting is May 13 from 11:30 am-12:00 pm. You must sign on by 11:20 am. STUDENTS, GET PARENT PERMISSION before signing on. This is open to anyone as far as I can tell.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Kids, hug your Mom! If you can’t, send her a note telling her how much you love and appreciate her.
Continue to stay safe and well,
Mr. Eric Anderson

Math Update #7 (5-1-2020)
Dear Parents and Students,
Here we are in May! Wow, quite an ordeal, isn’t it? Sorry for another lengthy email, but I want to make sure everyone is informed. ...at least it’s only once a week. :-)
Any parents interested in joining the Santa Margarita PTSA Board, check the following link for information. Copy and paste into your browser if the link doesn’t work.
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0?ui=2&ik=23577c55ae&attid=0.1&permmsgid=msg-f:1665343962051736059&th=171c7d8296ef71fb&view=att&disp=inline&realattid=801178c4cf019f1e_0.1
Again, thank you to all that are completing the Khan Academy lessons! More and more of you are participating each week. I’m still striving for 100% participation. I also appreciate those that are working on i-Ready as well. Make sure your priority is the Khan Academy lessons, those are the ones covering your grade level state standards.
For those scoring low on Khan Academy assignments and quizzes, make sure to go back and re-watch the videos and redo the work. (Several are doing this.) Your score view may not change on your end, but I can see your first and last attempts at the work. Strive to get 100% on all of it even if it takes a couple tries. As always, email me with any questions. Many of you have emailed me and I appreciate it. Remember, an email to me is NEVER an inconvenience, it’s my job to help you. Not to mention I really want you to do well.
It is important to stay caught up as the material builds lesson after lesson. For those of you starting the work late, you will have to go back and do the work for due dates long since passed. That’s okay! Do the work and send me an email saying it has been completed. I will verify and give you credit. The important thing is to learn the material. The math never goes away! (Have you heard that before?)
For late comers: 7th grade, start with Area and Circumference due 4-20-2020. 8th grade, start with Square Roots due 4-14-2020.
Everyone can track their scores/progress on Aeries. I have created a new gradebook for each grade. For 7th it’s called “Math 7 - Covid 19.” For 8th it’s called “Math 8 - Covid 19.” Included are the assignments that should be completed for the third and final grading period. Check it after each due date to make sure you’re getting the credit you deserve. As per the Districts grading guidelines, I am being very generous with my grading. Even so, set a high bar for yourself! It will pay off down the road.
I hope everyone is still staying safe and well,
Mr. Eric Anderson

Math Update #6 (4-24-2020)
Dear Parents and Students,
I’m pleased with the increase in participation on the Khan Academy lessons. Many of you are really doing an excellent job learning the material. You’re awesome! If you are one of the very few that have not signed up for your Khan Academy account (see the links below) or have an account but are not participating… step it up!
Be sure to email me at [email protected] with any questions.
As outlined in weekly update #5, be sure to get the math assignments done by the due date to assure you get credit. If you complete the assignments after the due date, you will need to email me and tell me which late assignment was completed including the original due date. I will then verify completion and credit will be given.
Mrs. Wilkins and Mr. Hayek are putting together a student leadership group. If you are interested see the informational video and survey from Mrs. Wilkins. You can access these from my website: eandersonmath.weebly.com
Also, I have the District temporary grading guidelines posted on my website for your information.
As we all work our way through this unprecedented school shutdown, be nice to one another! It helps.

Math Update #5 (4-17-2020)
Dear Parents and Students,
I hope this finds everyone well.
We have now gotten guidance from our District office regarding how grading will be handled for the duration of the current shutdown. Please see the attached files.
It is now more important than ever each student is completing their Khan Academy assignments. Again, this is not busy work. It is work that teaches the State standards we would have been learning if we were in an actual classroom. If you run into issues and/or have questions be sure to send me an email.
Please get all assignments completed by the due dates assigned. If you go back and complete a lesson after the due date send me an email letting me know, or you may not receive any credit. Just because the District set a low bar for performance for online work, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be giving your best effort on each lesson. It will absolutely pay off down the road. As I always say, “None of this math ever goes away!”
Eighth graders in my Enrichment class, I have now been directed to give you pass/no-pass grades for this class. I have added two more Everfi.net classes. You must complete 3 of the 5 courses to get a passing grade for the class. I have the codes below.
Also, for those of you that have not contacted your Music or P.E. teacher, please do so ASAP. If you know of anyone not getting these updates, please have them check and/or update their email addresses on Aeries.
My apologies if a few of you get two of this same email. Thank you everyone for hanging in there during these unusual circumstances.
Stay well,

Math Update #4 Spring Break edition (4-10-2020)
Dear Parents and Students,
I hope you have enjoyed your Spring Break as much as possible given our circumstances.
If you know a student that has not already signed up for a free Khan Academy account, please encourage them to do so right away (use link below). If you have more than one account for my class, please delete one of them. If you are not able to delete the account on your end, send me an email telling me which account you want deleted and I can do it for you. If possible use your school email to establish the Khan Academy account. This is not a requirement, but a recommendation.
Many of you have been doing an outstanding job with Khan Academy, thank you! Way to take care of your business during this crazy time. The rest of you need to step it up.
As I mentioned in my last update, I will be assigning fewer lessons at a time but with much quicker due dates. You should plan at least 1 hour per day to work on your math assignments. Many of you will not need nearly that amount of time, others perhaps more. Get a routine established to get all your school work completed. Remember, school is not out, we just aren’t going to the building.
I will be assigning the first set of lessons this weekend. Make sure to stay current. Some of the lessons early on will be a repeat for many of you. Please redo them, they’re important concepts.
Please, please email me if you have questions ([email protected]). I’m still your math teacher and want to help all students be successful. Take it upon yourself to explore other Khan Academy lessons to help if you need any review. There are hundreds of really good videos on all math concepts ...watch them!
Stay well everyone,
Mr. Anderson

Math Update #3 (4-2-2020)
Dear Students and Parents,
This will be a lengthy email, but please read it all. If you have any questions, as always, ask.
Here we are at the end of Week #3 with distance learning, to use the most recent buzz word. I have asked for guidance from Administration on how we are to continue with the extension of the shutdown. Using this guidance, the following plan is how I intend to implement 7th and 8th grade math beginning April 13 after Spring Break. As no one knows how long the shutdown will continue, I am approaching this situation as if we will not meet again this school year. I hope that is not the case but I’m planning as if it will be.
We will be continuing with the Khan Academy lessons. I will now assign more immediate due dates for the assignments to keep everyone moving along. Given the nature of our circumstances I will allot plenty of time to watch the videos and complete the work. Don't get behind!
The upcoming lessons will contain a lot of new material. Therefore, it is imperative all students watch and take notes on the videos, do the associated problems and quizzes with all the mental focus one would use during a regular class. Use the pause and rewind buttons on the videos, do the work on paper then enter answers. The material we will be covering are the State Standards every student will be expected to know when entering school at the next grade level. The better you are with this material, the easier next year will be. So, don't just clicky click to get through the lessons. That would be a waste of your time.
It appears the District will be sending out information about “APEX Learning,” another resource to help students along. At this point I am unfamiliar with this program. I may or may not use it as part of my official curriculum. You will probably be getting an email (yes, I know ...another one!) from the District regarding APEX Learning. Feel free to sign up and explore. If there is any required work from me on APEX I will be sure to let you know. Right now Khan Academy and i-Ready are my only requirements.
To sum up the situation, it is on YOU to take responsibility for your learning. I realize this is definitely not an optimal way to learn, but it is what we have. Set up a daily routine to get school work done and follow it. I am constantly checking emails so if you need help please send me an email and let me know. Don’t procrastinate!
Thankfully, next week is Spring Break! Take a break and get fired up to start on Monday April 13. I typically don’t check work emails over school breaks, but more than likely I will take an occasional look next week.
I trust everyone is staying well and coping with all the craziness. This too shall pass.
Thank you,
Mr. Anderson

Math Update #2 (3-27-2020)
Dear Parents and Students,
Here we are at the end of our second week of the school closure. I trust everyone is staying well and coping with this unique situation.
My plan is to send out a message every Friday to touch base with everyone to let you know about any updates or changes on how math instruction will be handled. At this point I have no information on any changes the District may have on handling the current situation or how long this closure may go on. Right now, I plan on returning to the classroom April 13. We’ll see…
Currently, my expectation for math students is to continue working on the Khan Academy lessons. (If you’re not registered see below.) Well done to those students that have been doing the lessons consistently! Yes, I am tracking it. The more lessons students work on the better off they will be when we return to our normal school schedule. I also recommend continuing to work on i-Ready.
Many parents and students have contacted me through email. ([email protected]) This is the best way to get any questions answered you may have regarding math classes. I also have posted on my website (eandersonmath.weebly.com) information that is pertinent to school activities as well as math class information. There is a lot of duplication with these updates, my website and information on the School & District websites. We are making every effort to reach all students and parents to offer guidance on how to approach your educational needs.
For those that have not yet registered for the Khan Academy lessons, when you get to the Khan Academy page, set up your free account and start the lessons.

Dear Middle School Parents and Guardians,
We are very excited to welcome your students to Oceanside High School.
We want to give them every opportunity to be successful. They will soon be part of the “Pirate Family”.
Our counselors had planned to visit your students this week. As you are probably aware; due to recent events “in-person student meetings” were canceled. We are now asking students to make their course selections online. This will also give you an opportunity to review and discuss the choices they have made.
Your student should be enrolled in the Class of 2024-OHS class on Google Classroom. There is where all instructions for course selection are posted. All students were added, but in the event of an error, this is the code your child needs to use to access this particular classroom via their OUSD Google Suite. Google Classroom--Class of 2024 OHS (code: ehfxpcg). We have created a Google Form/Survey that they must fill out in order to complete the process of choosing their classes. A video is shared with directions on how to fill out & complete the Google form. Additionally, the presentation from New Pirate Day is and the Course Request Form your student would have brought home after meeting with his/her counselor.
Please look for all this electronic information that has been shared with them. If they have any difficulties in accessing or filling out this document please do not hesitate to contact counselors with questions or concerns. Looking forward to meeting you all soon.

Dear Parents and Students,
Well, we’re one week into the craziness and I hope all is fine with you and your families. This is an update on how I plan to deal with math education for the foreseeable future.
I will be reading and answering emails M-F mornings from 9:00-10:00. Thursday will be at 10:00 A.M. after our middle school meeting. Of course, I will also be periodically checking throughout the day as well.
On Wednesday, March 25 I will have a video meeting for 7th grade students at 10:00 A.M. The 8th grade student video meeting will be at 11:00 A.M. These optional meetings will be for students to ask questions about the assigned Khan Academy lessons or anything else school related that may be on their minds.
To access the video meeting(s) you will need the free Zoom mobile or desktop app. More information is available at Zoom.us. Once you have the Zoom app click on the appropriate link provided below and join the meeting at the scheduled time.

Please remember this is all new to me as it probably is with you. Expect some hurdles along the way and be patient.
The i-Ready Diagnostic has been turned off by the District. Continue to do the i-Ready lessons as normal. Also, make sure you are getting onto the Khan Academy lessons to keep your skills sharp.
These links will take you to the lessons I have assigned. For those that have not yet registered for the Khan Academy lessons, when you get to the Khan Academy page, set up your free account.
